Tom Anderson Angel 7 - Ultraviolet Blue with Purple Edge Burst

When the Interstellar Tone Traveler ventures to the far edge of the extended-range galaxy, Tom Anderson’s workshop in Newbury Park, California is the destination. The Angel 7 is Tom Anderson’s seven-string platform executed to the same standard of obsessive precision that makes every guitar to leave that shop a benchmark instrument — and this example arrived in a finish that looks like it was pulled directly from the outer atmosphere of a gas giant. Ultraviolet Blue over a handpicked quilt maple top, fading into a deep purple edge burst: the figure in the maple moves three-dimensionally beneath the color, so the guitar appears to shift as the light does. Natural satin on the back and neck heel keep the Limba body honest — Limba is a tonally resonant, lightweight African hardwood with a character similar to mahogany but with a slightly broader, more open midrange response, and the Angel 7’s 7lbs 15oz total weight is exceptional for a seven-string with a figured maple top. The Caramel Maple neck adds another layer of visual cohesion, its stained warmth echoing the burst at the body edges and bridging the space between the UV Blue top and the natural back.
Tom Anderson doesn’t make playability compromises, and the Angel 7’s spec list is a clinic in what that means in practice. The Even Taper neck profile (.810" to .870") and 12-14" compound radius Blackheart fingerboard translate directly to a guitar that plays cleanly across the full board — chord positions in the lower registers and lead work up high both sit naturally in the hand. Jumbo Stainless Steel frets are essentially maintenance-free and deliver the smoothest, most consistent string feel available, with a brightness under the fingers that makes every bend and articulation feel precise. The Floating Vintage Recessed Tremolo sits below the body plane for maximum range of motion without body contact — Tom Anderson’s refinement of a classic concept that keeps the tremolo feeling and responding like a vintage unit while accommodating the demands of a seven-string platform. Locking tuners in black hardware hold everything in tune. H1- in the neck position and H2+ at the bridge are Tom Anderson’s complementary voicings — the H1- brings articulate, lower-output vintage character that cleans up and breathes, while the H2+ delivers the additional aggression and punch the bridge position demands. Five-way switching with position 3 set to an equal neck/bridge blend and a coil-splitting function covers the full tonal spectrum from warm and glassy to heavy and focused. A crushing guitar indeed.
