Introducing the PRS Tekton Family

A Whole New Kind of PRS

PRS has been listening, and what they heard was a growing call for more modern PRS guitars: thinner necks, longer scale lengths, flatter fretboards, stainless steel frets, and pickups that work as well with digital rigs as they do with tube amps. The answer is the PRS Tekton family, and we're excited to be bringing it to you.

PRS is clear that this isn't a single new model. In their words, they are "planting a flag for a whole new family of guitars." Four models are launching, in a wide palette of new colors, and they'll be shipping to us throughout the coming months.

Built for the Modern Player

The Tekton's design started with a Vela, some whiteout, and pencils. PRS trimmed the fat from the Vela and blended it with the classic Custom body shape, refining it through paper, computer, and several test bodies until it was right. The result is an exaggerated upper-fret scoop, a comfortable belly carve, and the thinnest body PRS has made in standard production.

The neck follows the same path: the thinnest neck PRS has made in standard production, but with a more "D" shape so it feels substantial rather than like a cramped stick. Hormigo strength rods, similar to the carbon fiber rods used in PRS acoustics and the Chleo signature model, add stability and rigidity and make for a more resonant instrument. String spacing matches the Silver Sky and Fiore, slightly wider than traditional PRS spacing, which helps sweeping arpeggios and precise picking.

Every model shares the same modern platform: 25.5" scale length (26.5" on the seven-string), a 16" fretboard radius, 24 stainless steel frets, an ebony fingerboard, offset dot inlays with Luminlay side dots, a scarfed maple neck, and Phase III tuners. Artists at PRS's listening parties asked for inlays, since the prototypes had none, so PRS designed a new, simple offset dot layout for the family.

Stylus Pickups

The Tektons carry all-new PRS Stylus pickups, voiced to be aggressive but clear, and usable in every position, split or full humbucking. They're Alnico 5 with a flatter output than many PRS humbuckers, so they keep some character while working well with digital rigs and modelers as well as tube amps. Output is deliberately moderate, which brings more clarity and pairs better with digital gear than hotter pickups.

The name fits: "Tekton" is Ancient Greek for artisan or builder, and a stylus is an instrument for writing.

The Four Models

Tekton (Hardtail). Figured mango top on a mahogany back with a shallow violin carve. The PRS hardtail bridge, with individual saddles and string-through design, favors resonance, tuning stability, and consistency. Finishes: Slate Blue, Imperial Topaz, Black Tourmaline, Violet Tourmaline, Bloodstone Red, and Fuchsia Aura.

Tekton T (Tremolo). The same mango-over-mahogany construction with a PRS two-point tremolo with steel plate and brass saddles. It can float for expressive vibrato while holding tuning, and the brass saddles add resonance. Finishes: Slate Blue, Imperial Topaz, Black Tourmaline, Violet Tourmaline, Bloodstone Red, and Fuchsia Aura.

Tekton "Floyd." A lightweight alder body with a Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo (16" radius) for dive bombs, flutters, and aggressive technique, plus non-locking Phase III tuners. Its finishes are bolder: Pearl Black, Purple Royale, Multi-Metal Flake, White Holoflake, Hot Pink, and Neon Green.

Tekton SVN (Seven-String). A 26.5" scale length for low-end clarity and string tension, a 7-string hardtail, a wider neck (1 29/32" at the nut), and purpose-voiced Stylus SVN pickups. Strung with PRS Signature 10-59 in B standard. Finishes: Slate Blue, Imperial Topaz, Black Tourmaline, Violet Tourmaline, Bloodstone Red, and Fuchsia Aura.
