Novo Dealer Limited Serus J - Surf Green over '64 3TB

The Interstellar Tone Traveler keeps a short list of builders whose work stops us completely — and Dennis Fano's Novo Guitars sits near the very top of it. Every instrument that comes out of Novo's Nashville workshop carries a depth of intention and a level of craft that quietly separates it from almost everything else in the boutique market, and this Dealer Limited Serus J is a stunning example of what makes Fano's vision so compelling. The finish alone is worth the price of admission: Surf Green laid over a 1964 3-Tone Sunburst, creating a translucent, layered depth that shifts between green shimmer and warm sunburst depending on the light, the angle, and the mood of the room. Applied in nitro with medium aging, it looks like it's been on the wall of a very cool collection for decades. The matching headstock carries the color story all the way to the top, and the 3-ply parchment pickguard keeps the vintage-correct aesthetic grounded and tasteful.
The Serus J platform is Novo's take on the Jazzmaster-style offset body, built here from tempered pine — Fano's signature toneword choice, lightweight, resonant, and acoustically alive in a way that heavier traditional bodies rarely achieve. The tempered roasted maple neck with compound 9.5"-14" radius East Indian Rosewood fingerboard plays with an effortless, immediate quality that rewards every playing style, from fingerpicked chords to full-throttle leads. Lollar P-90 pickups bring the warm, punchy, harmonically rich voice that has made Jason Lollar's winding the gold standard for players who take their tone seriously — present and musical in a way that stock pickups rarely touch. The Mastery M1 bridge with NV Vibrato and Lightning Bolt arm is the definitive solution for offset guitar stability and feel, solving every intonation and buzz issue the vintage Jazzmaster platform ever had while keeping every ounce of its expressive character intact. Dumble chicken-head knobs, Novo locking tuners, Jescar 47095 nickel-silver medium frets, and a bone nut at 1.650" complete a package assembled entirely from best-in-class components. Dealer Limited means exactly that — this one was built for us.
