Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue VOS - Gold Top
products.product.pickup_availability.unavailable
If there is a single year that defines what the Les Paul became, it is 1957 — the year Seth Lover’s PAF humbucker arrived in production and permanently changed the sound of the electric guitar. The 1957 Goldtop is the instrument that carried those first humbuckers into the world, and the Gibson Custom Shop’s reissue honors that moment with the precision and period-correct detail that separates a genuine historic reissue from a tribute. The Gold Top finish — nitrocellulose VOS with its soft vintage patina — glows with the warmth of a well-aged original, and the “light back” specification brings the natural honey mahogany color to the back that the best examples from 1957 carried, a period-correct detail that collectors recognize immediately. Murphy Lab Heavy Aged nickel hardware ages the hardware to a worn, played-in patina that gives the whole instrument the feel of something that has been somewhere — and the Brown/Pink Lifton Reissue 5-Latch case closes the presentation exactly as the original would have. At 8lbs 5oz, this is an exceptionally well-weighted example of a format that can run heavy.
Beneath the Gold Top, every construction detail resolves to 1957: 1-piece lightweight mahogany body, 2-piece maple top fitted with hide glue, long tenon neck joint fitted with hide glue, Authentic 1950s No-Wire truss rod, 50s Chunky “D” mahogany neck with cream single-ply Royalite fingerboard binding, aged Cellulose Nitrate trapezoid inlays on Indian Rosewood, and Historic Gibson Narrow/Tall frets at 24.75" scale. Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups at both neck and bridge — Gibson’s most accurate PAF recreation, with the softer, warmer Alnico 3 magnet that gives vintage humbuckers their characteristic bloom and musical sensitivity — run through CTS 500K Audio Taper pots with Paper-in-Oil capacitors and a 3-way Switchcraft selector. No-Wire ABR-1 with nickel-plated brass saddles, lightweight aluminum stop bar, Kluson Single Line Single Ring tuners, brown Royalite control covers, Amber Catalin switch tip. Certificate of Authenticity, Historic Reissue hang tags, and Gibson Custom Switchplate Medallion included.
