Epiphone IGC Explorer 80's EMG - Classic White

The Explorer arrived in 1958 as a vision of the future that the present wasn't quite ready for — too angular, too bold, too far ahead of where rock guitar was in that moment. Two decades later, heavy players caught up to it, and by the time the 1980s arrived the Explorer had become one of the defining shapes of hard rock and metal. The 1984 model specifically — with its mahogany body, active EMG pickups, and uncompromising geometry — became the weapon of choice for some of the most influential players of the decade, and the white finish version carries a particular weight in that history. The Interstellar Tone Traveler has always appreciated an instrument that looks dangerous before you plug it in, and the Explorer 80s EMG in white does exactly that: angular, sleek, pickguard-free, and finished in a gloss white that photographs like a statement and plays like a threat. The retro-futuristic shape that confused the market in 1958 became the silhouette of an era by 1984 — and this Epiphone tribute to that moment is the most accessible entry point into that legacy available today.
The EMG 81 at the bridge and EMG 60 at the neck are the canonical 80s active pickup pairing — the 81's tight, high-output aggression in the bridge position and the 60's warmer, more articulate character at neck together cover the full range of heavy playing with the clarity and noise rejection that active electronics deliver. Individual volume controls per pickup with a master tone and 3-way toggle give you full independent control of each position, knurled metal knobs keep the aesthetic period-correct, and Epiphone's LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece lock down intonation and sustain with a reliability that gigging players appreciate. The 60s SlimTaper mahogany neck runs fast across a 12" rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid dot inlays, Graph Tech nut handles string break angle with low friction, and mini die-cast tuners round out the hardware at 7lbs 12oz. Battery compartment is on the back for quick access. 9V battery not included.
