PRS Silver Sky De-Fender Limited Edition Guitars

The PRS Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition

John Mayer has never been shy about where his color ideas come from. He picks finishes based on objects and materials he loves, and for nearly twenty years one of those objects has been sitting in his driveway: an Arles Blue Land Rover Defender. So when PRS and Defender teamed up on a limited Silver Sky run, it felt less like a marketing tie-in and more like something that was always going to happen.

"Teaming up with Defender to offer the Silver Sky guitar in their legendary Defender colors is a dream come true," Mayer said. "I've always chosen colorways based on objects and materials that inspire me in the world, and as a collector and lover of Defenders, this collaboration is the perfect crossover between two great passions of mine."

Four Colors, One Family

The collection starts with that Arles Blue and adds three more heritage Defender finishes: Willow Green, Portofino Red, and Sandglow Yellow. Defender has a long history of pairing bold body colors with crisp black or white, and PRS borrowed that same idea here. Every guitar gets a white pickguard and white control knobs to set off the body color.

Each one has its own personality. Arles Blue is cool and deep. Portofino Red is the loudest in the room. Sandglow Yellow leans warm and golden, and Willow Green has an earthy, almost old-school feel. Line them up side by side and they look like four different guitars that clearly came from the same family.

What Makes It Limited

This run is capped at 500 guitars per color, 2,000 worldwide. The color doesn't stop at the body, either — every guitar features a matching painted headstock, a detail reserved for select limited-edition Silver Sky models. Each one ships in a PRS ATA molded case with a custom "DEFENDER" badge, and every neck plate is individually inscribed with its color name and "1 of 500," marking its exact place in the run.

Underneath the colors, it's the Silver Sky players already know. John Mayer and PRS originally built the Silver Sky around their shared love of 1963 and '64 vintage single-coil guitars, spending over two and a half years developing a guitar that captured that vintage sound and feel with a modern spirit. The 635JM-R neck carve, the three 635JM single-coils, and the steel tremolo is untouched here. Only the exterior tells a different story this time, one parked a little closer to home.

The Complete Collection

For collectors who want the full story, we're also offering the Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition Bundle — all four finishes together in one set: Arles Blue, Portofino Red, Sandglow Yellow, and Willow Green.

Each color brings its own personality to the collection. Arles Blue carries a cool depth, Portofino Red a bold presence, Sandglow Yellow a golden warmth, and Willow Green an earthy richness. Paired together, they read as four distinct instruments that still clearly belong to one cohesive family — exactly the effect a high-gloss nitro finish on an alder body is built to deliver. Every guitar in the bundle carries its own individually marked neck plate and its own PRS ATA molded case with the DEFENDER badge, so each instrument stands on its own even as part of the set.

Reserve Yours

You can grab the Silver Sky Defender in any of the four colors on its own, or go all in with the Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition Bundle and get Arles Blue, Portofino Red, Sandglow Yellow, and Willow Green together as a complete set. Every guitar in the bundle still comes with its own numbered neck plate and its own badged ATA case, so each one stands on its own even as part of the collection.

With only 500 of each color out there, we don't expect these to stick around long. Pre-orders are open now, so reach out to us to lock in yours before the run is gone.
