Interstellar Guitars and Gibson Custom Shop invite you to step beyond the stratosphere with the Greatest Hits II Collection—a rare constellation of instruments crafted exclusively for a select group of elite dealers. Handpicked and commissioned through Gibson’s Made to Measure program, each piece in this limited run represents the outer edge of artistry, tone, and visual gravity. With figured tops curated by Dustin Wainscott and specs unavailable through standard builds, these guitars exist in a sonic orbit all their own.

Among these celestial creations is this 1942 Banner J-45 All Mahogany – Murphy Lab Light Aged in Vintage Sunburst, a deeply expressive reimagining of one of Gibson’s most legendary acoustics. The original Banner-era J-45s earned their place in history during the early 1940s, revered for their warm, woody voice and unmistakable character. This modern Custom Historic interpretation channels that same spirit—but with a cosmic twist.

Departing from tradition, this GHII-exclusive build features an all-mahogany body, replacing the standard spruce top with a rich, harmonically dense mahogany top. The result? A darker, more focused tonal response with exceptional midrange punch—what we like to call a true cannon, capable of cutting through the mix with authority while retaining that dry, vintage sweetness.

Crafted by Gibson’s master luthiers in Montana, this instrument stays true to its roots with traditional hand-scalloped red spruce X-bracing, secured with hot hide glue for maximum resonance and responsiveness. The Murphy Lab light aging adds just the right amount of road-worn character, as if this guitar has already spent decades echoing across smoky stages and starlit sessions.

The comfortable “V” neck profile, paired with a rosewood fingerboard and bone nut and saddle, ensures a playing experience that feels both timeless and effortless. Every detail—from the firestripe teardrop pickguard to the Banner headstock inlay—honors the legacy while pushing the aesthetic into new territory.

Finished in a Vintage Sunburst that feels like a fading nebula at dusk, this J-45 doesn’t just look stunning—it tells a story. And with production numbers kept extremely low, it’s not just an instrument—it’s a collectible artifact from a fleeting moment in Gibson history.

This is more than a guitar—it’s a signal from another dimension, built for players who hear beyond the horizon.
