We don't come across vintage Soldano iron very often, and when we do, we treat it with the reverence it deserves. Mike Soldano built some of the most celebrated amplifiers of the late 1980s and 1990s — hand-crafted in the USA, sought after by the most serious players on the planet — and a genuine 1993 Hot Rod 50 represents a direct window into that golden era of boutique American amp building. Serial number 500482 rolled out of the Soldano shop over thirty years ago, and it has earned every one of those years. The purple tolex is the first thing that stops you — not the standard black that most vintage Soldanos wear, but a rich, distinctive purple that gives this amp a visual personality as unique as the circuit inside it. The tolex shows the honest marks of a life lived in the music world — some scuffs and tears that tell the story without apologizing for it — while the amp itself remains remarkably clean and fully functional for a piece that has been orbiting the tone universe since 1993. The Tuki slip cover included with this amp speaks to the care the previous owner brought to protecting it between missions.

The circuit inside this Hot Rod 50 has been thoughtfully enhanced by someone who knew exactly what they were doing. Two resistors and one capacitor have been changed to add more gain to the signal path, and a fixed depth circuit has been installed — tightening and focusing the low-end response in a way that complements the amp's natural character beautifully. Critically, all modifications are easily reversible for any purist who wants to return to factory spec. The tube complement is genuinely special: Sovtek 5881 power tubes biased on the colder side per Mike Soldano's own recommendation — producing a tighter, more focused response — with JAN Phillips preamp tubes in key positions. JAN — Joint Army Navy — designation means military-specification tubes built to standards far beyond commercial production, and a set of JAN Phillips tubes is something serious amp enthusiasts actively seek out. Single channel, Low and High inputs, Preamp Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, Master Volume, and Presence — the Soldano control layout in its most pure and purposeful form, all running through a line-level effects loop and feeding your choice of 4, 8, or 16 ohm cabinets. Thirty years old, purple, modified by someone with taste, and still very much ready for whatever the universe demands.

Condition Notes: Great condition for a 30+ year old vintage amp. Tolex shows signs of play with some scuffs and tears — honest wear consistent with the instrument's age and history. Amp is otherwise very clean and fully functional. Modified with two resistors and one capacitor for additional gain, plus fixed depth circuit — all mods easily reversible. Tubes: Sovtek 5881 power tubes (biased cold per Mike Soldano spec), JAN Phillips 12AT7 and 12AX7 preamp tubes. Includes custom Tuki slip cover.
