PRS Private Stock Limited Special Semi-Hollow - Citrus Glow

There are PRS guitars, and then there is Private Stock — and within Private Stock, there are the Limited Editions that the team builds on their own terms, from the vault up, with no constraints but the ones they choose to impose on themselves. The Interstellar Tone Traveler is honored to carry one of only 85 examples of the PRS Private Stock Special Semi-Hollow Limited Edition in Citrus Glow, and it is precisely the kind of instrument that makes the word "extraordinary" feel insufficient. As PRS Director of Private Stock Paul Miles put it: "What I love about running Limited Edition instruments in Private Stock is that it gives the team the opportunity to showcase our work on our own terms." The Special Semi-Hollow was chosen deliberately — a 22-fret, 25" scale platform with a single f-hole semi-hollow body and a hum-Narrowfield-hum pickup configuration that Miles himself describes as "extremely versatile, providing highly musical tones." The Black Limba back and neck add tonal balance and resonance in a way that mahogany cannot fully replicate — Limba's warmth carries a clarity and openness that reveals every nuance of the instrument's acoustic voice. And then there is the Citrus Glow finish — a vivid, radiant burst of orange and gold under high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer — set against smoked black hardware in a contrast that Miles specifically highlighted: "The smoked black hardware against the Citrus Glow finish create a dramatic aesthetic contrast." They are not wrong.

The material story of this guitar is extraordinary at every level. The highly figured Curly Maple top glows beneath the Citrus Glow finish with a depth that only Private Stock maple achieves. The Ziricote fingerboard — dark, dramatically grained, tonally articulate — is matched by a Ziricote headstock veneer, Ziricote truss rod cover, and Ziricote tuner buttons on the Phase III Locking Tuners, creating a unified wood story that runs from the headstock to the last fret. White Mother of Pearl Bird inlays with Paua shell outlines catch every shift of light with a luminous, multi-toned shimmer, and the headstock carries a White MOP Private Stock Eagle with matching Paua outline — one of the most visually refined headstock appointments in the PRS catalog. 58/15 TM humbuckers at the neck and bridge deliver PRS's most vintage-voiced, harmonically complex tonal character, with a Narrowfield single-coil in the middle for the platform's signature clean textures. The 5-way blade with two additional mini switches opens a tonal range that covers vintage warmth, chimey single-coil voices, and everything between. At 7lbs 6oz — light for a semi-hollow of this appointment level — it wears as beautifully as it plays.
