The Frostbite Glow finish is nothing short of celestial: a luminous, unified stain that flows across the Private Stock flame maple top, through the stained flame maple neck, and onto the Gaboon ebony fingerboard, creating a visual field that shifts and breathes with every movement under the light. The reverse Birds of a Feather inlay — designed by PRS Director of Manufacturing Paul Miles to mark a full decade since the pattern's debut — reimagines the iconic design with stained maple birds rising upward from the base of the fingerboard into an ebony sky, rather than the familiar ebony birds on maple. It is understated and utterly captivating, using the contrast of the woods themselves as the medium of expression. "I wanted to design an inlay that was simple and easy to read from across the room or on a stage but was also uniquely PRS," Miles explains. The Gaboon ebony headstock veneer with curly maple binding, Private Stock Birds of a Feather Eagle headstock inlay, and Brazilian rosewood truss rod cover ensure that every visible surface of this instrument rewards close inspection.

This instrument marks a historic first for PRS: TCI pickups in a Hollowbody platform. Carefully voiced for musical balance and clarity, the TCI pickups deliver the fullness of humbuckers while capturing the expressive, articulate character more commonly associated with single-coils and soapbar designs — a voice that is rich, open, and remarkably responsive to every nuance of playing dynamics. The Hollowbody I construction adds a layer of natural resonance and acoustic openness that amplifies everything the TCI pickups are capable of. Further expanding the tonal architecture are the mini-toggle EQ switches — a feature personally favored by Paul Reed Smith himself — which function as tuned high-pass filters, removing shelved low-end and allowing upper frequencies to breathe with enhanced clarity and musical luminance. First introduced on the 2023 Private Stock John McLaughlin Limited Edition, this feature has since become a defining characteristic of the TCI platform.
