The Interstellar Tone Traveler's respect for ESP's Southern California Custom Shop is well established — and the Eclipse USA makes the case differently than the V-II FR does. Where the V-II FR is a declaration of intent, the Eclipse is a statement of refinement: a full-depth single-cutaway instrument built to the same uncompromising standard, but shaped for a broader tonal and stylistic range. Tea Sunburst over a flame maple top is one of the great finishes in the single-cutaway tradition — a warm, golden-amber burst that catches the flame's movement and turns it into something almost liquid under gloss lacquer, darker at the edges and glowing toward the center like light through brewed tea held up to a window. Natural body binding and cream fingerboard binding frame the instrument cleanly against that warm finish, mother-of-pearl split-flag inlays mark the ebony board with a dressy precision, and the matching Tea Sunburst headstock ties the whole visual package together. ESP's set-thru construction — the neck tenon extending further through the body than a traditional set-neck — gives the Eclipse better upper-fret access than the format's vintage predecessors while maintaining the warmth and sustain that full-depth (60mm) weight-relieved mahogany delivers. The 24.75" scale, three-piece thin U mahogany neck (20mm–22mm), and 14" ebony fingerboard radius create a playing environment that is fast, comfortable, and familiar to anyone who knows the single-cutaway format at its best, while the Jescar FW57110 extra-jumbo stainless steel frets add durability and a slick, low-friction playing feel that traditional nickel-silver can't match. Fishman Fluence Modern pickups bring the most sophisticated active pickup technology currently available: rechargeable (no battery swaps), with two distinct voicings per pickup accessible via the pull on the second volume, and a single-coil split via the push/pull tone control — three fundamentally different tonal characters per pickup without leaving the playing position. TonePros T3BT locking tune-o-matic bridge and T1Z locking tailpiece hold intonation and sustain with the authority that locking hardware was invented to deliver, and Gotoh Magnum Lock tuners keep pitch stable under any demand.
