We don't come across instruments like this often — and when we do, we stop and pay attention. The Ernie Ball Music Man EVH Signature represents one of the most significant artist collaborations in electric guitar history: Eddie Van Halen, at the absolute height of his influence, working directly with Music Man to build a guitar engineered to his exact personal specifications. Produced in relatively limited numbers between 1991 and 1995, these guitars were built during a period when Eddie's relationship with his instrument was as refined and deliberate as his playing — every dimension, every spec, every material chosen because he wanted it that way. This particular example, dated August 11, 1994 and finished in Translucent Purple over a quilted maple top, is among the most visually stunning examples we've ever had the privilege of handling. Translucent Purple was a notoriously unstable finish on these instruments — the vast majority of surviving examples have faded significantly, their color shifted and washed out by decades of light exposure. This one has not. The purple remains vivid, deep, and luminous, the quilt maple top shimmering beneath it with a three-dimensional figure that catches light like a living thing. Paired with the all-birdseye maple neck and fingerboard — the fine, swirling bird's-eye figure running the full length of both surfaces — this is a guitar whose visual impact is matched only by its historical significance.
Everything about the specification reflects Eddie's precise tonal vision. The basswood body with quilt maple top delivers the warm, compressed character that Eddie favored throughout this era, while the Custom DiMarzio pickups — voiced specifically for this collaboration — provide the output, clarity, and harmonic complexity that defined his signature sound. The Music Man Floyd Rose bridge offers the stability and dive-bomb capability that Eddie's playing demanded, while the Schaller M6L tuners hold pitch with the precision a locking system requires. The EVH neck profile, 10" radius, and specially profiled frets were developed around how Eddie actually played — fast, fluid, and built for techniques that most players only dream about. The heel-adjust truss rod was an Eddie Van Halen preference that made roadside adjustments possible without removing the neck. Thirty years on, this instrument plays and presents as a genuine time capsule: original hardshell case, complete case candy, and a condition that speaks to careful stewardship across three decades. For the serious collector or player who has been waiting for the right one — this is it.
Condition Notes: Outstanding pre-owned example dated August 11, 1994. Translucent Purple finish is vibrant and unfaded — exceptional for a surviving example. One very small dent on the top, not through the finish. Minor light scratches on the back. Original hardshell case with complete case candy included.
