The Interstellar Tone Traveler has followed Dennis Fano's work across every chapter of his extraordinary career, and the Novo Ivorus represents something genuinely exciting: the vintage-inspired philosophy that built Fano's reputation, now channeled into a bass platform with all the craft and intentionality that players have come to expect from the Novo name. The Sparkling Burgundy finish with light aging nitrocellulose lacquer radiates like a distant supernova, a deep metallic burgundy that catches and throws light with a warmth and dimension that flat finishes simply cannot produce, made even more alive by the light aging that gives it the patina of an instrument that has been somewhere worth going. Beneath that extraordinary exterior, Novo made a choice that speaks volumes: a Tempered Pine body paired with a Tempered Maple neck. Thermally treated tonewoods carry a stability and resonant quality that untreated wood develops only over decades — pine in particular brings a lightweight, harmonically open character with a directness and warmth that explains why early Fender Telecasters built from the same material became some of the most coveted instruments in guitar history. The 32" medium scale sits in the sweet spot between short and full scale — more comfortable and player-friendly than a standard 34" bass, with enough tension and punch to satisfy players who demand definition and clarity in every note.

The pickup choice alone sets the Ivorus apart from virtually every other bass on the market. Novo Jazzmaster Bass pickups wound by Jason Lollar take the distinctive character of the Jazzmaster pickup design — warm, full, and harmonically complex — and adapt it for bass frequencies with results that are immediately and distinctly their own: different from J-bass, different from P-bass, entirely Novo in personality. A volume/blend/tone control layout gives the player complete command over the dual-pickup voice, while Coronado knobs, a 3-ply black pickguard, and matching Sparkling Burgundy headstock maintain the visual cohesion of a custom instrument built to be extraordinary in every detail. The 7.25" vintage radius fingerboard, MOTO dot inlays on East Indian rosewood, Hipshot A-style bridge, Hipshot tuners, and Jescar medium nickel-silver frets complete a bass that plays like a vintage instrument from the first note — because Dennis Fano has always understood that the best way to build a new guitar is to deeply respect what made the great old ones unforgettable.
