Gibson Custom Shop 1957 SJ-200 Reissue - Antique Natural

There are guitars, and then there is the SJ-200 — and the Interstellar Tone Traveler does not use the phrase lightly when we say that "The King of the Flat-tops" has earned that title across nine decades of American music history. Introduced in 1937 and refined through the Golden Age of Gibson acoustics, the SJ-200's Super Jumbo body, Moustache bridge, and Graduated Crown inlays became one of the most recognizable visual and sonic statements the American guitar industry ever produced. This Gibson Custom Shop 1957 SJ-200 Reissue in Antique Natural is a period-correct tribute to one of that instrument's most celebrated eras — hand-selected Flame Maple back and sides, a Thermally Aged Sitka Spruce top that compresses decades of natural tonal aging into the wood before it ever leaves Nashville, and a 2-piece Flame Maple neck joined to the body via Compound Dovetail joint, all finished in gloss nitrocellulose that gives the Antique Natural its warm, slightly honeyed character. The headstock stinger is period-correct. The hide glue bracing is period-correct. The entire instrument is built as if 1957 never ended.
The Graduated Crown mother-of-pearl inlays march up the rosewood fingerboard in the SJ-200's signature progression — each crown larger than the last, a detail that has distinguished this model from every other Gibson acoustic since its inception. The iconic Four Bar Moustache bridge in the SJ-200 tradition anchors a bone saddle and TUSQ bridge pins for optimal resonance transfer, the Casted SJ-200 pickguard carries the ornate, sculpted design that makes this guitar's body unmistakable even from a distance, and gold-plated Gotoh Keystone tuners with a bone nut at 1.72" complete a collection of appointments that collectively justify the Custom Shop designation without apology. Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing with hide glue delivers the projection, warmth, and dynamic range that made vintage SJ-200s the choice of players who needed to fill a room acoustically — and the thermally aged spruce top means this guitar sounds like it has already been played for thirty years. Period Correct Hardshell Case included.
