Martin D-X2E Molly Tuttle Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Vintage Sunburst
products.product.pickup_availability.unavailable
The Interstellar Tone Traveler recognizes Molly Tuttle as one of the most gifted acoustic guitarists to emerge in a generation — a flatpicking champion whose speed, musicality, and genre-defying artistry have earned her a place among the most celebrated players in the acoustic universe. The D-X2E Molly Tuttle Signature tells her story in every detail, drawing inspiration from her beloved 1943 D-18 and translating the feel, character, and personality of that irreplaceable vintage instrument into an accessible X Series package built for the road. The Vintage Sunburst satin top is warm and quietly radiant, and the figured mahogany HPL back and sides bring a visual richness to the platform that standard HPL doesn't attempt — a nod to the figured mahogany character of the vintage instrument that inspired the whole design. Scalloped X-bracing over a solid spruce top delivers clear, articulate tone with the presence and note separation that Molly's intricate playing demands, while the Old Style 18 multi-stripe rosette connects the instrument unmistakably to the D-18 tradition at its heart.
What makes this signature model genuinely personal is in the details that only Molly could have brought to it. The moon phase fingerboard inlays — rendered in faux MOP and faux abalone — are among the most distinctive and imaginative inlay designs found anywhere in Martin's catalog, tracing the lunar cycle up the ebony fingerboard with a quiet, cosmic poetry that suits the Interstellar narrative perfectly. The 1941 neck profile, making its X Series debut here for the first time, delivers the comfortable, vintage-shaped feel of the early 1940s golden era — rounded, full, and natural in the hand — at a 1 11/16" nut width tailored to Molly's preference. Custom oval tuner buttons on nickel open-gear tuners add another personal visual touch, and Martin E1 electronics with built-in tuner make the jump to stage effortless. Two signature Martins in the catalog, two extraordinary artists, two completely different personalities — the Interstellar Tone Traveler is proud to carry both.
