Tom Anderson Guitarworks T-Icon Shorty - Dark Honey Burst

$4,595.00

The Interstellar Tone Traveler has developed a serious appreciation for what Tom Anderson does with classic blueprints, and the T-Icon Shorty is proof that the Anderson wizards can reimagine a beloved formula without ever losing the soul of it. This is Anderson's take on the single-cutaway Telecaster-style platform — but with a twist that changes everything: a 24.75" short scale that brings Gibson-style comfort and playability to a traditionally Fender-scale instrument. The result is a guitar that bends easier, feels more immediate under the hands, and has a slightly warmer, rounder midrange character than a full 25.5" Tele — while still delivering all the snap, twang, and articulation that swamp ash and a traditional 3-saddle compensated bridge have been promising players for seventy years. The Dark Honey Burst finish on that swamp ash grain is absolutely gorgeous — warm amber and caramel swirling through the wood like light through a jar of honey, set off perfectly by the pearl white pickguard and satin natural caramel maple neck.

Anderson's pickup selection on the T-Icon Shorty is characteristically thoughtful. The VA7.2 and VA7.2R single-coils in the neck and middle positions are vintage-voiced and beautifully musical, with the reverse-wound middle providing hum cancellation in positions 2 and 4, while the TV3 bridge pickup delivers that classic, focused Tele bite with Anderson's signature clarity and balance. The T-Plate 5-way switching opens up the tonal palette well beyond traditional Telecaster territory — position 3 blending middle and bridge for a chimey, quacky voice that feels genuinely fresh. Heavy stainless steel frets on a 12"-14" compound radius board mean this guitar will play effortlessly and stay fret-perfect for a lifetime. At 7 lbs 7 oz, it's a featherweight built for long hauls across the cosmos.
