Tom Anderson Guitarworks Drop Top - Atlantic Storm
products.product.pickup_availability.unavailable
If the Arc Angel is Anderson's single-cut soul and the Wolfhound is their tweed-era rocker, the Drop Top is the flagship — the guitar that has defined Tom Anderson's identity since the very beginning, and the one that players around the world reach for when they need a single instrument to do everything. This example in Atlantic Storm is a visual knockout: a deep, moody blue-grey burst rolling across a flame maple top like a weather system moving across open water, the figure catching and shifting in the light while the body binding frames the whole composition with clean precision. Chocolate Maple neck — Anderson's richly dark caramelized maple in a warmer, deeper tone than standard roasted maple — adds another layer of visual drama against the Natural Satin finish, and the rosewood fingerboard completes a color palette that ranges from stormy blue at the top to warm chocolate at the back. At 7 lbs 3 oz, it hangs perfectly on the body — the flame maple over alder combination delivering resonance and snap without unnecessary mass.
The HSH pickup configuration is where the Drop Top earns its reputation as the ultimate versatile instrument. H1- in the neck brings the warm, articulate humbucker voice with reverse-wind design for hum cancellation in split positions, the VA7.2 single coil in the middle adds glassy, chimey single-coil clarity for positions 2 and 4, and the H2+ at the bridge delivers focused, punchy heat for leads and rhythm work that commands any mix. Anderson's 5-way switching with position 3 dedicated to the middle pickup and the N+B splitter option unlocks a full spectrum of tonal combinations that cover jazz warmth, Strat quack, and high-gain aggression without ever feeling like a compromise in any direction. The Baby Floyd tremolo keeps the whole ship in perfect tune through everything from subtle vibrato to full dive bombs — Anderson's refined take on the Floyd Rose system, delivering all the stability with none of the traditional wrestling match at the nut. Jumbo stainless steel frets, locking tuners, and compound 12"-14" radius make the playing feel as effortless as the tonal range is vast.
