 The Advanced Jumbo is one of the great lost chapters in acoustic guitar history — introduced in 1936 as part of Gibson's bold "advanced" lineup, built for only three years, and produced in such limited numbers that it all but disappeared from the conversation while other models claimed the spotlight. That obscurity turned out to be a gift: vintage AJ models have since emerged as some of the most coveted, most argued-over, and by many accounts finest-sounding flat-top guitars in existence. This is the instrument that history almost forgot, now built to the highest standard Gibson Custom can bring to bear, and limited to a number that ensures it will never be commonplace.

 The AJ Anniversary arrives in Cremona Burst gloss nitrocellulose — the same warm, vintage-correct sunburst that graced Montana Gibsons in their finest eras — laid over a hand-selected bear claw Sitka spruce top, where the rare diagonal figure in the grain catches light in a way that plain spruce simply cannot. Rosewood back and sides complete a tonal pairing that delivers the AJ's legendary projection and full, authoritative bass response, anchored by traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing. The Historic AJ neck profile, bound rosewood fingerboard, and mother-of-pearl arrow inlays keep the vintage authenticity intact, while the vintage script "The Gibson" logo in mother of pearl on a single-ply bound headstock tells you exactly where this guitar comes from. Period-correct pyramid carvings on the rosewood bridge wings, a firestripe pickguard, and gold-plated Grover open-back tuners complete a guitar that looks as serious as it sounds.
