Forged in the star-forges of the Gibson Custom Shop and relic-crafted by the Murphy Lab’s master time-benders, this Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood Light Aged brings the legendary “King of the Flat-Tops” back from its pre-Galactic era origins. First unveiled in 1937, the SJ-200 became a gravitational force in the acoustic universe—massive in presence, rich in tone, and commanding on any stage it touched. Pre-war rosewood-bodied models were produced in such small numbers that they’ve become near-mythic artifacts, prized by collectors across the musical cosmos.

This modern recreation is a faithful resurrection of those rare celestial originals. The rosewood back with a three-rope marquetry strip and matching rosewood sides deliver lush, planetary low-end depth, while the thermally aged red spruce top—reinforced with traditional red spruce scalloped X-bracing—projects with a dynamic clarity that cuts through the atmosphere like a solar flare.

Its long 25.5" scale length AAA maple neck, built from two pieces with a central walnut stringer, offers a comfortable D-shaped profile, and a period-correct stinger on the back of the peghead adds vintage star-chart flair. The ebony fretboard, bound and adorned with mother-of-pearl graduated Crown inlays, guides your hands like a constellation map, while the headstock glows with a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and Crown inlay, all kept steady with gold Grover® Imperial™ tuners.

Every detail radiates with ornate, Golden-Era splendor: multi-ply binding on the top, back, and headstock; an ebony SJ-200 Four Bar Moustache™ bridge with mother-of-pearl inlays; a bone nut, saddle, and pins; and the iconic tortoise SJ-200 pickguard, dressed in multi-colored comet-dot accents and a double border.

The Murphy Lab Light Aged finish adds the aura of a well-traveled vintage commander—subtle checking, lightly aged hardware, and the lived-in feel of an instrument that’s journeyed through decades of musical starfields. It arrives housed in a pre-war–style Red Line hardshell case, completing the authentic time-warp experience.
